Client B

August 8, 2026 · Ibid.

Editorial cartoon: in a bare Justice Department conference room, newly confirmed attorney general Todd Blanche stands at the wall signing a large conflict-of-interest waiver pinned there. The line for Client A, Trump, already carries an enormous black Sharpie scrawl; Blanche is signing the blank line for Client B, the U.S. A young career prosecutor watches from the doorway holding a box of case files.

The Senate confirmed Todd Blanche as attorney general 50-49 early Saturday, with all Democrats and Republicans Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski opposed. Blanche, President Trump's former personal defense lawyer, will now lead a department of more than 100,000 employees; Sen. Bill Cassidy cast a decisive yes while saying he was troubled by Blanche's judgment. The committee vote had been held up until Blanche signed an Aug. 2 statement declaring the $1.8 billion Anti-Weaponization Fund rescinded, alongside a second statement narrowing a tax-audit shield to Trump, two of his sons and the Trump Organization.
