The Senate confirmed Todd Blanche as attorney general 50-49 early Saturday, with all Democrats and Republicans Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski opposed. Blanche, President Trump's former personal defense lawyer, will now lead a department of more than 100,000 employees; Sen. Bill Cassidy cast a decisive yes while saying he was troubled by Blanche's judgment. The committee vote had been held up until Blanche signed an Aug. 2 statement declaring the $1.8 billion Anti-Weaponization Fund rescinded, alongside a second statement narrowing a tax-audit shield to Trump, two of his sons and the Trump Organization.
