133x

August 15, 2026 · Ibid.

Editorial cartoon: in a Sand Hill Road conference room, Sergey Brin points a laser pointer at a pitch slide reading '133x RETURN' above a tiny stub of a bar next to a giant one, saying 'The tiny one's the ask.' A table of billionaires scribbles notes; Jensen Huang stands at the back with his arms folded, writing nothing, beside a 'NO ON 40' yard sign.

Google co-founder Sergey Brin has given another $20 million to the campaign against California's Proposition 40, taking his total spending past $100 million. Prop 40, on the November ballot, is a one-time 5% tax on the net worth of roughly 200 California billionaires, with proceeds largely funding state healthcare programs; Brin's own bill is estimated at $13.3 billion against a net worth of about $267 billion. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, who would owe about $8 billion, has said he is 'perfectly fine' paying it, while Governor Gavin Newsom opposes the measure and calls instead for a national billionaires' tax.
