US attorney general Todd Blanche told NBC's Meet the Press he would not pledge that the justice department will always act independently of the White House. Blanche, previously Trump's criminal defence lawyer in the New York case that convicted Trump on 34 felony counts, was confirmed 50-49 after Trump fired Pam Bondi. He defended the pardons of about 1,500 Capitol attackers, including more than 170 who pleaded guilty to assaulting police, and said the department would continue its 'election integrity' demands for state voter rolls despite more than 20 consecutive court defeats.
