Very good relationship.

Noise Complaint

August 16, 2026 · Ibid.

Editorial cartoon: at a barbed-wire DMZ fence, Kim Jong Un leans over the wire to hand Donald Trump a paper marked NOISE COMPLAINT while a ballistic missile climbs out of its launcher in full flame behind him; Trump staples a notice reading DRILLS REDUCED to a soldiers' tent flap as a very tired South Korean president Lee Jae-myung watches. Caption: Very good relationship.

President Donald Trump said the US will "substantially reduce" joint military exercises with South Korea, citing his "very good relationship" with Kim Jong Un. He linked the decision to Seoul declining his invitation to join the US in the "Denuclearization of the Islamic Republic of Iran", saying they answered "No thanks!". The 11-day Ulchi Freedom Shield exercise, involving about 18,000 South Korean soldiers, began Monday and Trump said it was too late to cancel; North Korea has conducted two UN-banned ballistic missile tests this month.
