The U.S. national debt topped a record $40 trillion, according to Treasury Department figures, with spending expected to exceed revenue by more than $2 trillion this year. Separately, President Trump is promoting a seven-page, unauthored Census Bureau analysis of more than 128 million voter records that claims over 24,000 noncitizens voted illegally in 2020. A Census employee told NPR the team behind it included people affiliated with the America First Policy Institute, and data and election experts say its conclusions are questionable.
