A federal judge in New York struck down the State Department's ban on immigrant visas for citizens of 75 countries, ruling it illegally discriminated by nationality. Judge Jeannette A. Vargas found the policy contrary to the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952 and beyond Secretary of State Marco Rubio's authority, vacating it and setting aside denials based solely on it. The State Department said the policy would remain active until the U.S. can ensure new immigrants "will not extract wealth from the American people."
